National Grid is hiring a Lead Quantitative Analyst for our Waltham, MA location.
Job PurposeThe Lead Quantitative Analyst in the Advanced Analytics & Forecasting team part of the Electric Transformation organization will conduct complex quantitative analyses and develop advanced quantitative models with a focus on the electric load forecasting applications.
This role helps to enable the business stakeholders to achieve the company's strategic priorities that include reliability improvement, regulatory compliance, clean energy goals, operational efficiency, and customer affordability.
Key AccountabilitiesCollaborating with the business stakeholders, Data Engineers, Software Engineers & the Project Manager to develop, maintain and enhance electricity usage, load, and customer growth forecasting at the feeder level including the potential impacts of distributed energy resources using any and all appropriate modeling methods/techniques.
Organizing and prioritizing work based on the business value and the impact it creates.
Developing quantitative methods, analyses, and tools that support predictive analytics for asset management, asset optimization, and market changes on the electricity portfolios.
Planning, design, execute and deliver solutions using an agile iterative approachCreating high-level and detailed models, such as simulation/optimization models, and commodity, asset, and market quantitative models, and other advanced analytical systems to support the strategic initiatives that transform the energy utility industry.
Analyzing key themes from a wide range of internal and external data sources, including the use of modeling tools, and select relevant information to identify how key themes and market trends may impact the business.
Translating functional policy into processes and procedures that drive greater efficiencies for National Grid and ensure compliance with regulations relevant to existing electricity portfolios and proposed transactions.
Promoting and implementing procedural best practices to ensure all working practices (and where relevant, health and safety standards) are compliant with National Grid policies and regulatory requirements.
Ensuring projects are delivered according to the release plan, schedule, fit-for-purpose, and within budget.
Developing and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to share technical advice, best practices and to understand and challenge business decisions when appropriate.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience RequiredQualificationsMaster's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Computer Science, Applied Management Science or Operations Research with 6 plus years of experience in advanced quantitative analysis and modeling.
Additional expertise in relational databases (Oracle, SQLite); NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra), SQL, and state-of-the-art programming languages (Python, etc.
)Strong expertise in Power Engineering with more focus on transmission and distributionExceptionally strong advanced analytical, problem engineering and problem-solving capabilities as well as the ability to design, create and work with highly advanced and sophisticated computer models and tools in any/all of the following areas:
Modeling of time series, assets (contracts, physical entities), networks (power), and business processes and strategies using many different modeling methodologies, e.
g.
theoretical/empirical, deterministic/stochastic, fitted/self-adaptive, and multi-scale/hierarchical.
Simulation of high-dimensional stochastic time series, sequenced events and constrained network flow, massive agent-based simulation framework.
Optimization of all types (linear, integer, quadratic, nonlinear, combinatorial, etc.
) with particular emphasis on extremely large, multi-level, multi-stage, multi-objective stochastic problems.
Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning:
supervised learning and unsupervised learning methodologies, Deep LearningDemonstrated ability to bring creative and innovative analytical, modeling and risk analysis approaches to the business.
